Japan’s Prime Minister made headlines after delivering a notable remark about Barron Trump during a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Sanae Takaichi, who became Japan’s first female prime minister in October 2025, visited the White House to strengthen ties between the two nations, particularly amid rising tensions linked to the US military actions in Iran.

Known for her conservative stance, Takaichi has maintained a close relationship with Trump since taking office. During her visit, she even pledged to gift the United States 250 cherry trees to commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary—a symbolic gesture highlighting the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
However, the meeting also drew controversy after Trump made a joke referencing the Pearl Harbor attack, which many considered inappropriate.

Amid the discussions, Takaichi made a lighter, more personal comment about Trump’s son, Barron, who had recently turned 20.

She described him as a tall and handsome young man and asked Trump to pass along her birthday wishes. The remark drew laughter from those present and seemed to ease the atmosphere.
While the meeting included moments of tension and criticism, it ultimately reflected a continued effort by both leaders to maintain strong diplomatic relations, even in the face of global uncertainty.
